Where Tarika Comes From And How It Is Made

A Few Words from the Manufacturer in India

After observing the benefits of mud-bathing among village women with beautiful skin who bathed near the river banks and ponds, the possibility of enhancing these benefits with the addition of Ayurvedic herbs dawned upon us. We had to undertake travel and research to understand the types of clays that were most beneficial. Visits to virgin areas in search of soils were taken up and we realized each type of soil had its own benefits to give. We decided on a right combination of different clays for best results and, to this, the most powerful and potent herbal extracts, as recommended by Ayurveda, were added to make the final product effective and long lasting. This endeavor required the study of many Ayurvedic teachers and throughout the entire process we were very much helped by Vaidyas (Ayurvedic doctors) and other knowledgeable persons.

Riverbeds and Soils (Clays)

In India, there are large virgin tracts through which rivers pass and remain absolutely pure and full of mineral and herbal riches with curative properties. The clays for Tarika are collected from these riverbeds, ponds and valleys in areas where there is little or no human habitation and where the medicinal plants grow freely along the banks. The upper layers of soil normally are not taken. The rich layers underneath are collected by hand usually during or after the rains, when they are at their purest state from being continually washed by the rain water and freshly fed with mineral and herbal deposits that have flowed down from the mountain tops. The texture, feel and color of the soils reveal their qualities and testing is performed to determine their suitability. The soils are cleaned before soaking and washing them in liquid extracts of herbs for further purification and for imparting the necessary qualities. They are then dried in the sun and stored for use. Sunlight serves as a powerful disinfectant and purifier as well as an energizer of the herbs and minerals. The entire preparation process of the clays requires 30-45 days to complete.

Herb Preparation

Herbs which include the roots, leaves, bark and fruits of trees and plants are all gathered by hand from the forest and semi-forest areas just after the rains, the fruits in their season. The herbs are first cleaned by hand and soaked two to three times, each time with fresh herbal extracts. After soaking, they are sun-dried, mixed in the required proportions and machine ground. For some products such as Pimple Remover and Face Wash, the ingredients are hand pounded individually and sieved to the required mesh before blending. Final mixing of the clays and medicinal herbs is done manually.

It is important to mention that the vast knowledge about the medicinal properties of plants and minerals was obtained thousands of years ago by the Rishis, the seers of ancient India, while meditating in the forests. The quality of each tree, plant and mineral was revealed and later
passed on through memory, repetition and writing. It is this unique and extraordinarily accurate and comprehensive knowledge that is the base of Ayurveda. The instructions and recommendations of the Rishis have a powerful mantra-like effect and if followed faithfully, they give powerful results.
